The Holsteiner of the Month for March comes from the successful breeding programme of the Witt family from Wellinghusen. The horse in question is Quno, who took second place at the World Cup stages in Amsterdam (NED) and Bordeaux (FRA) with the young Swiss rider Edouard Schmitz. The 14-year-old gelding is a son of Quo Vados by Quidam de Revel – also a product of Witt Pferdezucht GbR – out of Tora II by Cash and Carry-Concerto II-Capitol I from line 776. Tora has several full siblings who have enjoyed success in competition, such as Cash and Go (Simone Wettstein/SUI) and Cash up (Georgina Tame/GBR and Shane Breen/IRL), who have also been successful in competitions up to 1.60 metres.
Quno and Edouard Schmitz have been a pair since summer 2021. The Holsteiner originally made his way to Switzerland via Bernhard Porten. At last year’s World Championships in Herning, they represented Switzerland, as they did in the Nations Cup at Spruce Meadows (CAN), where the Swiss team took second place. However, the two second-place finishes in the World Cup show jumping events in Amsterdam and Bordeaux are probably the greatest successes the pair have celebrated together so far. It will be interesting to see where the pair’s journey takes them next.
