He is by no means a newcomer – for the Holsteiner of the Month for October is none other than the State Champion and the reigning National Champion of six-year-old show jumpers. Lyjanair is the name of the gelding bred by Wendy Davis Gerrish (Texas, USA). However, this son of Lyjanero out of Coriano was born in Bokel, at the Ahsbahs’ farm. “Good friends and the managers of my breeding and young horses,” is how Wendy Davis Gerrish describes Deike and Jochen Ahsbahs.
Lyjanair – who, incidentally, is a half-brother to Karmen, a daughter of Casall and one of the final ring mares at this year’s Elite Mare Show – has been owned by Bentgsson and Helgstrand GmbH for a good two years. Bart van der Maat has trained the double champion from the Holsteiner mare line 474a to date.
The Holsteiner Verband is, of course, particularly delighted about Lyjanair’s extraordinary triumph, especially alongside the breeder. “Lyjanair’s success is simply incredible. I am thrilled and proud of his achievements. I have been breeding sport horses since 1999 and now my efforts have paid off and a dream has come true,” says Wendy Davis Gerrish, quite rightly delighted.
