The Holsteiner of the Month for June is called Con Qudiam RB. In this case, the suffix ‘RB’ stands for the breeding partnership of Rüdiger Bröcking and his wife Irmelin from Borken in northern Hesse. The 16-year-old stallion is ridden by the young Dutch rider Sanne Thijssen; the pair won the Global Champions Tour leg in Madrid, Spain, in mid-May. Ten pairs had qualified for the jump-off, including, incidentally, Darragh Kenny (IRL) and VDL Cartello by Cartani (Witt Pferdezucht GbR, Wellinghusen) in second place – a horse that was also named Holsteiner of the Month back in January this year.
The 23-year-old rider and the son of Quinar-Cardino-Capitol I have been a pair since 2014. Over the years, they have celebrated countless successes and won major show jumping events – such as the 2017 Dortmund Grand Prix and last year’s CSIO5* in Rotterdam in front of a home crowd. However, the likeable pair have now achieved their greatest success to date in Madrid, where they not only secured a €100,000 winner’s prize but also a place in the Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix in Prague. “On the way to the final fence, I was well within the time limit, so I wanted to play it a little safe. Con Quidam was 100 per cent focused; he did an incredible job, and the feeling at the finish line was simply indescribable,” said Sanne Thijssen following the prize-giving ceremony.
Con Quidam is descended from the Holstein line 1446. His dam, Capitola RB, was herself successful in show jumping up to 1.35 metres and, in partnership with Uriko, produced Ustinov ME, who was licensed in Oldenburg. Con Quidam’s granddam, Irina B by Capitol, is in turn the dam of the licensed stallion Con Capitol by Contender and several successful sport horses, such as Calina B by Casiro (Mathilda Karlsson/SRI) and Can Get You by Contender (Kate Levy/USA).
