A relatively young horse has been awarded the title of ‘Holsteiner of the Month’ for July. Uriel (by Uriko, out of Centurion), a son of Uriko, is just six years old. However, in his very first international competition, the Holsteiner immediately achieved outstanding success: in the Youngster Tour held as part of the German Championships in Balve, the gelding galloped to victory in the final with Richard Vogel in the saddle; the pair finished second in each of the qualifiers.
Uriel is a member of the Holsteiner line 7299 and was born at Jan Kai Hansen’s stud in Wiemerstedt. Last year, he competed at the National Championships in Warendorf under Richard Vogel’s partner Sophie Hinners and secured a place in the final. In the meantime, Uriel gained further show jumping experience with Marvin Jüngel and Rasmus Bewersdorff, and qualified once again for the Bundeschampionat under Sophie Hinners in Viernheim at the start of June. In Balve, it was Richard Vogel who impressively guided the young Holsteiner to victory.
On closer inspection of Uriel’s pedigree, one name in particular stands out: C-Indoctro. The son of Capitol I out of Caletto II was also born at the Hansen family’s stud in Wiemerstedt and is the son of Vanessa VII, Uriel’s great-grandmother. It will be fascinating to see what path to success this promising young Holsteiner talent will take in the future.
