For Cassandra Orschel, a dream came true at the German Jumping Derby in Hamburg at the end of May "which she had never expected". This is because the 29-year-old female rider managed to take victory in the 91st Derby as only the fifth woman ever. Her sporting partner in this was the Holsteiner of the month of July: Dacara E by Cancara-Caretino, bred by Gerd Eggers from Stadum. In 2016, Cassandra Orschel discovered the chestnut mare at the Holsteiner Spring Auction. Since then, she has carefully produced the chestnut mare. They secured the title of State Champion the following year and became State Ladies' Champions in Bad Segeberg in 2020.
"She is not entirely easy, has a mind of her own and you always have to make compromises. But she is also an incredible fighter, she jumps from every position, has an immense amount of power and no fence has been too high for her so far," said Cassandra Orschel about Dacara. The Hamburg native, who rides for Poland, and her eleven-year-old mare are actually not derby specialists at all, but rather highly successful nationally and internationally in show jumping up to 1.60 metres. Yet at the Derby, they demonstrated in front of a home crowd that the bank, birch oxer, Holsteiner road jumps & co. are no problem for them. In the jump-off, the pair managed the only clear round, and the true Holsteiner dream pair would have thoroughly deserved the style prize as well.
