In August 2023, it was announced that Coolio, a son of Casalito and Quidam de Revel owned by Marcel Marschall, was to join the stable of the top German rider Marcus Ehning. Martina Wirtz from Hohenzieritz in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania bred the ten-year-old and sold him at the Holsteiner Elite Foal Auction in 2013. Coolio, who comes from line 2067, was the first foal by her mare Anka VIII, who was bred by Jürgen Hattebuhr (Winsen). Via the auction in Elmshorn, the black-bay horse then moved to Bavaria, and his breeder initially lost track of him. As a young horse, he went on to enjoy success in show jumping competitions and joined Marschall’s stables in 2019, where he was introduced to international competition.

During their time together, Marcel Marschall and Coolio placed in competitions up to 1.60 metres; in the 2023 season, they finished third in the Grand Prix of Linz (AUT), fourth in Mannheim (GER) and was part of the German bronze-medal-winning team in the Nations Cup at St. Gallen (SUI). “Marcel Marschall has done a very good job training Coolio. But I am incredibly proud that a horse from my stud is now joining Marcus Ehning’s stable,” says Martina Wirtz, delighted following Coolio’s move to Ehning. Following a number of placings at two- and three-star competitions, the Holsteiner and Marcus Ehning recently celebrated their first significant victory together when they won the 1.60-metre Grand Prix at the FEI World Cup in Madrid (ESP), finishing ahead of a large number of the world’s elite riders.
