A show jumper that consistently turns heads in the Youngster Tours has been awarded the title of ‘Holsteiner of the Month for January’. We are talking about Chubakko by Connor-Colman-Contender Landgraf I, bred by Wolfgang Söhner from Krautheim in Baden-Württemberg. The stallion, who has been licensed in the Southern German and Hanoverian systems, amongst others, recently won the seven-year-old final at the German Championships in Riesenbeck. Riding this athletic-looking grandson of Casall is Ludger Beerbaum’s rider Christian Kukuk.

Chubakko’s career began in January 2016 in Munich-Riem, where he was not only licensed but also sold at auction. “Even back then, Chubakko attracted a lot of attention during the free jumping,” recalls Roland Metz, who was working as marketing manager for the South German Horse Breeding Associations at the time. Under Andreas Ilg and Klaus Krüp, the black-bay from line 890 gained his first competition experience before Christian Kukuk presented him on the show jumping course for the first time in October 2018. During his 14-day test in Marbach, where he also made his breeding debut, and in the two performance tests for licensed stallions in 2017 and 2018, both held in Münster-Handorf, Chubakko received marks of up to 9.0 for his character, willingness to perform, rideability and jumping ability. And, as is so often the case, this horse’s breeding success is no coincidence: Chubakko’s dam was herself successful in show jumping up to 1.40 metres, and his granddam, the Contender daughter Chubakka, produced – in combination with Casco – the 1.60-metre show jumper Carasco, ridden by Javier Solis Gonzales (MEX).
