Holsteiner of the Month for August: Nerrado

The Holsteiner of the Month for August has been a safe bet in the junior show jumping circuit for years. Yet, together with his 20-year-old rider, he is increasingly holding his own against experienced and older competitors. We are referring to the 14-year-old Holsteiner stallion Nerrado and the exceptional talent in his saddle, Hannes Ahlmann. At the CSI*** at Hof Waterkant, the pair left the entire international field behind them and won the Holstein Grand Prix over 1.55 metres.
In December 2017, Hannes Ahlmann took over the Nerrado-Acorado I son, bred by Uwe Krohn (Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog) and previously ridden by Björn Nagel. Over the years, Ahlmann and Nerrado established themselves as a force to be reckoned with at youth championships and in Nations Cup teams. Victories in the 2020 Ehlersdorf Grand Prix (S***), with the German team in Wierden and, amongst others, in the final qualifier for the U25 Show Jumping Cup stage in Hagen this year, underline the class of this licensed stallion. Perhaps the greatest success of their career to date: victory at the German Youth Championships in Riesenbeck in 2020. It is a title the pair are certainly keen to defend this year.
Yet Nerrado, who descends from the Holstein line 104A, is not only an excellent show jumper – he is also increasingly making a name for himself as a sire. He has already set price records at elite auctions, and with Narajana B (dam’s sire: Cantakko), Simone Smitz has a daughter in her stable who has already reached the advanced class. It will be fascinating to see what the future holds for this Holsteiner of the Month (August) in terms of breeding and competition.
