This week, horses with Holsteiner pedigrees enjoyed a perfect start to the indoor season, securing numerous international victories and placings.
Rolf-Göran Bengtsson travelled to the World Cup show in Herning (DEN) with the association’s stallions Catch and Zuccero. Riding Catch by Colman-Calido I (Hans Peter Löding Hasenkamp, Quarnstedt), line 890, he finished second and third in the 1.40-metre class. Riding Zuccero by Zirocco Blue-Caretino (Hanno Köhncke, Badendorf), line 4539, and his Swedish rider finished their 1.40-metre warm-up class in second place and won one of the main 1.45-metre classes.
In the Netherlands (Peelbergen), Canmore by Casall-Contender (Birgit Becker, Metelen), line 18A2, and Markus Renzel (GER) secured victory in a 1.45-metre show jumping class. The pair were unbeatable in the jump-off of this day’s main class, closely followed by another Holsteiner in second place: Carreras by Cachas-Cassiano (Axel Hansen, Olderup), line 4245, ridden by Felix Hassmann (GER).
At the SH Holstein International in the Holstenhallen in Neumünster, Crunchy by Crunch-Little Lord, ridden by Takashi Shibayama Haase, took the win. This mare from line 8763 was bred by Rasmus Lüneburg (Hetlingen) and also brought into competition. Crunchy’s dam, Lordica, helped Nisse Lüneburg achieve some of his greatest successes during his time as a young rider; with Little Lord, both Rasmus and Nisse themselves enjoyed great success, including placings at the German Youth Championships. Takashi Haase has now had the mare in his stables for three-quarters of a year, after the Yamagata family secured her.
Giulia Martinengo Marquet celebrated victory in the three-star Grand Prix at San Giovanni (ITA) as something of a home win. The Italian rider was in the saddle of Quick and Easy, a daughter of Quick Orion d’Elle-Colman (Raimund Eichert, Ellwangen), line 730B. “What a magnificent horse,” was the winner’s breathless comment after the 1.50-metre competition.
Dressage
Te Quiero SFI (Hans Reisinger, Wolnzach), a son of Totilas and Loutano from line 5302, won the Short Grand Prix in Zakrzow (POL) with Christian Schumach (AUT). The pair had already competed for Austria at this year’s Olympic Games and the European Championships.
At the World Cup event in Herning (DEN), Annabelle by Conteur-Linaro (Günther Fielmann, Schierensee), line 776, and Helen Langehanenberg also finished fourth twice – in the Grand Prix and the Grand Prix Freestyle.
Eventing
Following the Olympic Games and the European Championships, Holsteiner horse breeding recorded yet another magnificent success in eventing: ridden by Kevin McNab (AUS), the former auction horse (Elite Riding Horse 2018) Cute Girl by Coventry-Clearway (Hobe Magens, Ottenbüttel), line 308, secured the world championship title for seven-year-old eventing horses in Le Lion d’Angers (FRA). She added no further faults to her excellent dressage score (-26.9) in the cross-country and show jumping. A detailed report on the World Championships for young eventing horses will follow.
Holsteiner competition results
Cute Girl’s top-class genetics will also be on show next week at the Holsteiner Elite Riding Horse Auction. Lot number 137, Quintus by Quibery-Limbus, is out of the same granddam as Cute Girl and already boasts several relatives who have enjoyed success in the sport. He himself has already placed in 1.10-metre classes.
