Last weekend, Harrie Smolders and Monaco by Cassini II-Contender (Ralf Lütje, Haseldorf), line 429, were once again in absolutely top form. At the third leg of the current FEI Longines World Cup, held in Lyon, France, the Dutch rider and his Holsteiner secured an outstanding second place, which was rewarded with prize money of just under 62,000 euros. Earlier, the 15-year-old also took second place in another 1.60-metre show jumping competition.
And there are further Holsteiner successes to report from France: Quax by Quidam de Revel–Corrado I (Uwe Tiemann, Drade), line 8783, secured two placings in 1.50-metre classes under Pedro Junquiera Muylaert (BRA), as did Jana Wargers’ tried-and-tested Limbridge by Limbus-Cambridge (Ralf Pawlowski, Heidenheim), line 741, who also managed to place over 1.50 metres. Also successful in Lyon from a Holsteiner perspective were: Uricas v/d Kattevennen by Uriko-Cassini I (Otto Boje Schoof, Hedwigenkoog) and Harrie Smolders (NED), line 1916, as well as Casanova SZS by Cesano II-Casall (Wilfried Ollech, Hellertshausen), line 2369, and Alexa Ferrer (FRA) with two placings over 1.60 metres.
A CSI3* event was taking place at the same time in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. Here, Comthago VDL by Comme il faut-Carthago (Wilhelm Kochs, Eschweiler), line 3697, ridden by Hessel Hoekstra (NED), took fourth place in a 1.55-metre show jumping class. In the same competition, Camilla van de Helle by L.B. Crumble-Casall (Klaus Thiedemann, Oesterwurth), line 2453, finished seventh under Kevin Jochems (NED).
In Thermal (USA), Holsteiner horses claimed no fewer than four of the top ten places in the 1.50-metre Grand Prix. Capitale by Cassini I-For Pleasure (Elmar Sipple, Ravensburg), line 8769, took the win. With British rider Charlie Jones in the saddle, the Holsteiner achieved the fastest clear round in the jump-off. Second place went to Quantico by Quidam de Revel–Cassini I (Avora Pferde GmbH, Welmbüttel), line 2004, ridden by Maggie Mariano for the USA. In seventh and ninth place respectively were Cool Quarz by Quarz-Cassini I (Gundula Henningsen, Rantrum), Lot 2004, ridden by Shawn Casady, and Odysseus by Osilvis-Riverman (Patricia Vasey, USA), Lot 1463, ridden by Kylie King.
