A long-standing tradition will continue in 2021: as part of the Holsteiner State Show, the top foals of the current crop will compete on 19 September from around 11.30 am. Just under 40 promising young horses have qualified for the State Foal Championship following the registration dates in the licensing districts. “We are delighted that this year’s crop is also characterised by its high quality,” explains Nobert Boley, Managing Director of Holsteiner Verband Hengsthaltungs GmbH, who organises the Foal Championship every year.
Offspring of stallions such as Casall, Clarimo, Dinken, Cahil and Chezarro will compete against sons and daughters descended from, amongst others, Cascadello I, Chacfly PS, Vingino, Checkter, Mumbai and Quabri. The dressage foals’ sires include Zenon and Dream Boy. And so Sunday afternoon is all about the Holsteiner foals, who first take to the dressage arena before the best of the best make their grand entrance on the venerable main arena. For anyone interested who cannot attend in person, ClipMyHorse.TV will be broadcasting the entire event live.
It is not only the best Holsteiner foals of the year and the special atmosphere in Bad Segeberg that make the VTV/R+V Holsteiner Foal Championship such an outstanding highlight in the calendar. Above all, the outstanding prizes make this event particularly attractive. The winning filly and the best colt will each have the chance to win a Böckmann horse trailer, sponsored by the R+V VTV Insurance Group and Hauke Ahsbahs. In addition, attractive stud fee vouchers from Holsteiner Verband Hengsthaltungs GmbH and many other prizes are up for grabs. The exact programme and the list of entrants will be announced in mid-September.

A small group of interested participants will also have the opportunity, as part of the PM seminar ‘Transparent Foal Assessment – What the Judge Wants to See’, to receive live commentary on the foals being presented on Sunday. What aptitudes can already be identified at foal age with regard to their future use as riding horses? What do a foal’s conformation and gait tell us about its future use and performance? Hans-Joachim Ahsbahs will provide background information and assessments between and during the presentations of
the individual foals and will be available to answer questions
