On the final Sunday of the Holsteiner Horse Days, the Association’s Mare Show provided another highlight on the programme.
Thirty-one mares born in 2022 and 2023 had been pre-selected during the registration process in the licensing districts. “We didn’t make it easy for ourselves. We really saw some outstanding quality among the top contenders today,” emphasised breeding director Stephan Haarhoff. Stephan Haarhoff, as breeding director, along with Carsten Lauck and Marc Horns from the commission, declared Royal Beauty U.P. (cover photo) the winner, a mare with a strong jumping pedigree. The breeder of this three-year-old daughter of Chacoon Blue and Conthargos is Günther Fielmann (Schierensee); as her name suggests, she was presented by U.P. Sporthorses GmbH from Bad Oldesloe. “A mare with a great deal of charm and brilliant movement,” remarked Stephan Haarhoff. This success is excellently underpinned by the Holstein line 223B.
Antje Lembke (Stendal) was secured as this year’s reporter. The renowned equine scientist is breeding director and managing director of the Brandenburg-Anhalt Horse Breeding Association and has been closely involved in horse breeding since her childhood. “It was a pleasure to judge these high-quality mares. I particularly liked the informative catalogue, which provides a wealth of information and details on the performance of their relatives,” said Antje Lembke. Traditionally, the reporter also comments on a few mares. Antje Lembke did so in the case of the Reserve Champion, Raija by Cornet’s Quaprice-Casall, bred by Matthias Kühlmann (Rietberg), line 1298: “An athletic mare with superb posture and a very good walk, who received a high rating.”
The second Reserve Champion title was awarded to Raschida P.D. by Conthalou-Quinar, bred and owned by Peter Domenus (Borgstedt) and from line 3317. Endowed with the desired Holsteiner knee action and a great deal of presence, she made a convincing impression right from her first appearance.
Rosegarden by Escanto PS
Rosegarden by Escanto PS-Aljano, bred and presented by Karin Winter-Polac from Lürschau, emerged as the dressage-oriented champion mare. “An all-round successful mating,” emphasised the breeding director. “Not only is she harmoniously built and has a beautiful face – she has already impressively demonstrated that she is also very easy to ride during her performance test.”
P-Orchidee by Fürst Zonik PS-Fleming (Rabana Tropschug, Bokel) rounded off the association show by taking the reserve title in the dressage category. “A mare with a maternal appearance, plenty of rhythm and a powerful drive, who is already very well-muscled and presented herself excellently in hand,” said Antje Lembke, highlighting P-Orchidee’s qualities.
“We’ve had the pleasure of admiring some fantastic mares. Many of the top mares have already been performance-tested and come from the very best Holstein mare lines. We’re very pleased with how today has gone,” summarised Stephan Haarhoff.
