A story that only the world of equestrian sport could write – Caillan, the son of Casall Carry, and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson have put the perfect finishing touch to their golden season: Having first become state champions in Elmshorn and then national champions in Warendorf, they have now claimed the world championship title for seven-year-old show jumpers in Lanaken (Belgium).
“We’ve had a very good year,” said a delighted Bengtsson. “We’ve already won the championships in both Holstein and Warendorf, and this really is the icing on the cake. “When I compare him to his sire, Caillan is more explosive over the jump than Casall, but of course he still has a long way to go to match his successes,” the Swede remarked with a smile.
Caillan’s proud breeder and owner, Gerd Ohlsen from the island of Föhr, was present at all his victories. He bred this representative of the 18A2 line from the dam of the 1.65-metre show jumper Pikeur Dylon (Markus Brinkmann). Caillan’s granddam also produced Nisse Lüneburg’s Derby winner, Calle Cool. Caillan himself first entered the sport under Antonia-Selina Brinkop; she rode him to the runner-up title in the State Championships for six-year-olds in 2021, before he moved on to Rolf-Göran Bengtsson. “Rolf had had his eye on Caillan for quite some time,” revealed the breeder of the Casall son. “And so we want to try to use Rolf in the saddle to give Caillan a springboard into international competition,” Ohlsen continued after the triumph in Elmshorn.
With Tokyo by Toulon-Cassini I (Jürgen Böge, Bunsoh), line 7492, and Hannes Ahlmann finishing fourth, another Holstein pair achieved an excellent result in the seven-year-olds’ final. Tokyo showed great speed and remained focused throughout the classes in Lanaken; after finishing second in the second qualifier, he made only a minor fault on the final jump in the jump-off of the final class, which prevented him from achieving an even better placing.
In addition, the Diarado-Casall son Davis (Timm Peters, Bargenstedt), line 390, finished fifth in the five-year-olds’ final, having secured bronze at the State Championships and tenth place in the final of the National Championships. Thibaut Huyvaert, a rider at the Bengtsson Stables, was in the saddle for all these successes. He and the former Holsteiner auction horse did not have a single knockdown this weekend.
The best Holsteiner representative in the ‘Sires of the World’ jumping competition for stallions was Chopin VA by Casall-Coriano (Manfred von Allwörden, Grönwohld), line 5064, ridden by Mathilda Karlsson; the pair finished seventh.
