Today, Friday, the first qualifying rounds of the State Show Jumping Championships took place at the Herbert-Blöcker-Platz. And there was one rider who had certainly got it right. We’re talking about Hannes Ahlmann, who secured no fewer than three victories for himself and his horses. “It’s going well,” said Hannes Ahlmann afterwards with a broad smile on his face.
In the seven-year-olds’ category, the young show jumper from Reher topped both divisions of the M** show jumping. Riding Cimarosa by Comme il faut–Cormint (Jürgen Böge, Bunsoh), line 7492, Ahlmann won the first division; with Casanderos by Cascadello I–Quidam’s Rubin (Dr Hartmut Bruhns, Aurich), line 776, he won the second. In the qualifier for the State Championships for five-year-old show jumpers, it was once again Hannes Ahlmann who secured the gold ribbon in the first division. This time he was in the saddle of the grey stallion Quivisto CL by Quim CL–Leovisto (Carsten Lauck, Pinneberg), line 6691. With a dream score of 8.8, the pair have already signalled their intent ahead of Sunday’s final. “So far, I’m really pleased. We’ve had a very good showing today. Now I hope my horses can build on these successes in the final classes,” said Ahlmann. “But every round is a new one; I learnt that very early on as a rider,” he added cautiously. When asked what chances he thinks they have for the coming days of the competition, he replies: “We’ll try to give it our best, and if we manage to reach the jump-off, our chances of being among the frontrunners aren’t bad.” With an equally impressive score of 8.7, the former reserve champion of the Holstein licensing, Chavaros II by Charleston-Con Air (Reimer Detlef Hennings, Bedorf), line 1571, secured victory in the second section of the five-year-olds. The grey, presented by Philipp Schulze on behalf of the Maas J. Hell stud farm in Klein Offenseth, clearly seems to be at home at the Herbert-Blöcker-Platz – last year he already finished fifth in the final at this venue.
The four-year-old show jumpers also completed their qualifiers for tomorrow’s final today. And there were two winners. Firstly, Non Plus Ultra by Cornet Obolensky (Kai Wullweber, Todesfelde), line 6582, was awarded the gold ribbon. Arne van Heel rode the mare, from the stock of Holsteiner Verband Vermarktungs und Auktions GmbH, to a score of 8.8. The other winner was the licensed stallion Diacont by Diamant de Semilly-Contender (Wolfgang Weber, Nürtigen), line 18A2, from the Maas J. Hell stud. Once again today, the competitors enjoyed excellent conditions in Elmshorn. “Our young horses in particular can learn a great deal in this fantastic atmosphere. It’s an important step in their development. It’s also great fun to compete against the many talented riders taking part here,” said today’s triple winner, Hannes Ahlmann, praising the event.
Auction, Final Competitions, Volleyball
On Saturday, 15 June, the sporting programme begins at 8.00 am with the final for the four-year-old show jumpers, followed by the final for the seven-year-olds. At 11.30 am, the Herbert-Blöcker-Platz will belong to the youngest participants. That’s when the 28 foals up for auction will make their first public appearance, before the auction of riding horses and foals begins at 3.00 pm. After the evening is rounded off once again with challenging show jumping from 6.00 pm, the athletes will swap their riding breeches for shorts as they compete for glory, honour and high-quality prizes in the volleyball competition.
