Press release from the Maas J. Hell Stud Farm
Every experience counts – which is precisely why the Maas J. Hell Stud is organising its second free-jumping competition for three- and four-year-old horses and ponies on 6 December 2025 from 2 pm, combining the event with a concise and focused panel discussion.
The inaugural event in December 2024 was exciting and insightful. One person who was there with the winner of the four-year-old horses – Hugo d’Isigny by Hym d’Isigny-Canstakko (breeder and owner: ZG Tegtmeyer) – was Oliver Ross from Thedinghausen. “It’s always good to let horses free-jump in unfamiliar surroundings. This provides new insights for owners and breeders.” For the horses, this results in new experiences. Hugo d’Isigny, incidentally, is currently in training with Ross; he has completed show jumping classes and “things will get really interesting with him from next year,” the trainer is certain.
The large, heated indoor arena at the Maas J. Hell stud farm offers ideal conditions for a free-jumping competition, with a long free-jumping lane, seating stands for the public and ample space for the warm-up. “It’s just great fun,” Kimberley Klügel states frankly, “actually, I was just as excited as if I were riding myself.” Her Balou de Coeur by Balou Star-Casall came second in the three-year-old age group. Klügel: “It’s exciting to see your own horse free-jumping in unfamiliar surroundings. You also learn something about the horse’s character, and people notice you too. As a result, we were often approached.”
Once again, the free jumping competition is being organised by an experienced team led by show jumper Jan Mewes, who can ensure a positive experience for every single horse. Those interested can register very easily: on the Maas J. Hell stud farm’s website – www.stallhell.de – there is a registration form that asks for all the necessary information. The entry fee is ten euros. Meanwhile, the administration office at the Maas J. Hell stud farm is already seeing a growing pile of prizes donated by partners and sponsors of the free jumping competition.
Concise and entertaining – panel discussion
During a short break between the two age groups, there will be an opportunity to discuss horse breeding and mating pairings for the Hell stallion lot. Sebastian Rohde, breeding adviser at the Maas J. Hell stud, the successful breeders Jens Ritters and Jochen Ahsbahs, dressage riders Wieger Derk de Boer and Neel-Heinrich Schoof (breeding adviser/Managing Director of the Trakehner Association) are the key figures in this discussion. The aim is to provide food for thought and to highlight the qualities of the Hell stallions. Following the free-jumping competition, the station invites you to a relaxed light meal – during which the topic of the panel discussion can be explored in greater depth. Admission to the competition and discussion is free for all interested parties.
