Until Casall retired from the sport in 2017 with a spectacular victory in the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in front of a home crowd, it was not uncommon for him to compete against his own offspring. “It is extraordinary and simply fantastic for a stallion to compete against his offspring during his active sporting and breeding career,” said Rolf-Göran Bengtsson at Casall’s final show in Hamburg. Numerous of Casall’s offspring have, in fact, been competing at the highest level for many years. According to HorseTelex, around 100 are successful at the 1.60-metre level. To mark Casall’s 25th birthday on 13 April, we have compiled a selection of his most successful sporting offspring.
Cordial
Cordial by Casall-Chicago Z (Hans-Hermann Gempf, Stelle), line 325, paved the way for the young French rider Megane Moissonnier to enter international competition. The pair competed in the Nations Cup in Aachen and at the European Championships in Milan (ITA). A few months ago, the stallion moved to Denis Lynch’s (IRL) stables, where Cordial has already continued his winning streak.
Cita
Ridden by the two Irishmen Daniel Coyle and Conor Swail, the Casall-Pik Ramiro daughter Cita (Anja Stehen, Gisselrade) competed at five-star level for several years. The bay mare’s victories included Spruce Meadows (CAN), Bratislava (SVK) and Wellington (USA).
Cochello
Cochello by Casall-Cartani (Reimer Detlef Hennings, Bendorf), line 1298, is at home on the world’s major competition stages. Ridden by the Italian Piergiorgio Bucci, the experienced grey gelding has recently enjoyed success in Rome (ITA), Madrid (ESP) and at the Nations Cup Final in Madrid (ESP), amongst other events.
H&M Chilli Willi

He passed away far too soon, but remains unforgettable: H&M Chilli Willi by Casall-Lord (ZG Diedrichsen, Borgsum) from the legendary line 318D2, which also produced, amongst others, the Olympic horse Camiro (Tony André Hansen/NOR). Ridden by the Belgian Nicola Philippaerts, the stallion was among the world’s best.
Austria
Austria by Casall-Corrado (Heide M Kriegler, AUT-Sigless), line 4564, won the legendary Rolex Top Ten Final in Geneva a few years ago under Kent Farrington (USA). Last year, her rider sent her into retirement with the following words: “Austria is retiring from the sport healthy and happy. She has won everything from show jumping to the five-star Grand Prix. Of her many victories, I will never forget the one in Geneva at the Top Ten Final.”
Carlito’s Way

Carlito’s Way by Casall-Lordanos (Johannes Petersen, Bredenbek), line 4847, who was introduced to international competition by Rene Dittmer, is currently successful in show jumping up to 1.60 metres under Rodrigo and Alexa Pessoa (BRA). The Casall son also competed at the Olympic Games in Tokyo (JPN).
Casello

Before Casello by Casall-Carolus I (Herbert Blöcker, Neuendorf), line 2139, joined Ludger Beerbaum’s stable, he was ridden by Douglas Lindelöw (SWE) up to the highest level. The chestnut won, amongst other things, at the Global Champions Tour in Berlin and finished in the top three in Prague, Doha and Hagen.
Cinca

Bred by Peter Wylde (BEL) and from the same dam line in line 318D2 as H&M Chilli Willi, Cinca by Casall-Carthago was born. Under Michael Duffy (IRL), the grey mare has already won numerous major show jumping competitions, such as the second qualifier for the European Championships in Milan (ITA) last year. Cinca won silver with the team.
Chaka Chaka

Chaka Chaka by Casall-Contender (Daniel Lehmann, Seengen), line 104A, was carefully introduced to more demanding challenges by Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann; she went on to finish second in the Grand Prix at Peelbergen (NED), amongst other achievements, and recently moved to the USA.
Classic Touch DH

For two years running, Classic Touch DH was European Champion in the young show-jumping category; in 2022, she even won individual and team gold for Belgium. The Casall-Corrado I daughter (Johann Peter Lass, Leck), line 162, has won everything there is to win with Thibeau Spits in the saddle. The mare is now continuing her success under the American rider Erin Pritzker.
Tomorrow, the themed week in honour of Casall will focus on his licensed sons...
