Today, to mark Casall’s 25th birthday, the themed week is dedicated to some of his daughters who have enjoyed breeding success. Casall has sired no fewer than 90 State Premium mares recognised by the Holsteiner Verband, as well as countless others awarded Association or District Premiums. At the Association’s mare show, Casall’s daughters have frequently made it through to the final ring; on seven occasions, he sired the winning mare in the show jumping ring. We have compiled a list of these mares for you.
2008 – Vontessa VA by Casall-Carolus I
In 2008, Vontessa by Casall-Carolus I (Manfred von Allwörden, Gröhnwohld), line 474A, trotted her way to the top of the Association Mare Show. As a broodmare, she later produced several show jumpers. The best known of these is Danessa VA by Catoki, who competes for Ireland under Ciaran Nallon.
2011 – Akimba by Casall-Lavaletto
Akimba by Casall-Lavaletto, line 2895, was born at Uwe Pahl’s stables in Dägeling. The then breeding director, Dr Thomas Nissen, described the 2011 Champion Mare – a horse with excellent movement – as an outstanding representative of the breed, adding: “Akimba embodies the type of modern Holsteiner that is sought after today”.
2013 – Cascada I by Casall-Lord Calando
In 2013, it was Cascada I by Casall-Lord Calando (Dr Karsten Meinert, Mölln), line 18A2, who secured the title of Champion Mare. “When this impressive mare entered the ring, we knew straight away: this is going to be the Champion Mare,” commented Dr Thomas Nissen on Cascada I’s performance, describing her as “a top-class mare in every respect”.
2017 – Graziella BB by Casall-Cassiano
Just a few weeks after Casall had retired from the sport following his victory in the Global Champions Tour in Hamburg, his daughter Graziella BB (sire: Cassiano, breeder: Manfred Birchler, SUI-Bilten), Line 104A, at the Holsteiner Verband’s mare show in Elmshorn. Her great-granddam Corlanda was herself successful over jumps up to 1.60 metres and was the top-priced mare at the Holsteiner Verband’s Elite Auction.
2019 – Indira VI by Casall-Cassini
In 2018, Casall once again produced the winning mare. Indira VI by Casall-Cassini I (Manfred Nissen, Breklum), line 6786, had already impressed as the winner in the North Frisia licensing district. Under Björn Behrend, the now eight-year-old grey mare has since enjoyed success in show jumping up to the advanced class.
2021 – La Perla by Casall-Contender
La Perla
by Casall-Contender (Katja Claußen-Brühe, Seeth-Ekholt), line 1859, was presented as an “exceptional mare who leaves nothing to be desired”, as breeding director Stephan Haarhoff described the 2021 Mare of the Year. La Perla comes from a successful dam line, which also includes her full brother Casdorff, who was licensed in 2004.
2023 – N-Quinta by Casall-Corofino I
The show-jumping-oriented Holsteiner Champion Mare of the Year 2023 was N-Quinta by Casall-Corofino I (Günther Fielmann, Schierensee), line 223B. She had already been selected as the winner of her registration in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde licensing district and her dam, Nanett I, was herself awarded the title of Holsteiner Champion Mare in 2002 and has since produced five offspring successful at S-level. “N-Quinta is an exceptional mare with outstanding conformation and three very good basic gaits,” said breeding director Stephan Haarhoff, praising the Casall daughter.
Tomorrow is the big day: Casall is celebrating his 25th birthday...
