Three new winners for Holstein – at the R+V Holsteiner State Foal Championships, the finest representatives of the 2025 crop competed for victories and placings.
The filly champion was a daughter of Duplexx out of a Carpaccio dam, bred by Sonja Franzenburg-Much. The jury – comprising Oldenburg licensing commissioner Dr Evelin Schlotmann, international show jumper Toni Hassmann and Holstein breeding director Stephan Haarhoff – awarded her 28.35 points. “An outstanding foal with great suppleness, which moves effortlessly through its body and leaves nothing to be desired in all three basic gaits,” commented Dr Evelin Schlotmann. This victory is a very special achievement for Sonja Franzenburg-Much, as she has managed to repeat her triumph in the R+V State Foal Championship from the previous year. In 2024, she won the dressage foal classification with a half-brother of this year’s champion.
Close behind in second place was a filly by Karlo de Kalvarie-Diarado, bred by Claus-Heinrich Petersen. The youngest foal in the entire championship impressed the jury across the board. The chestnut filly received 28.05 points from the judges, who particularly highlighted her correct conformation and her rhythmic movements. “A well-deserved second place,” emphasised Dr Evelin Schlotmann. Third place in the fillies’ classification went to a daughter of Cascadello I and Caretino, with 27.60 points. Hobe Magens is the breeder of the third-placed filly, who was awarded the top mark of 10 twice in the ‘type’ criterion.
“Close to perfection”
Victory in the colts’ class went to a son of Dinken-Chin Champ. The jury awarded no fewer than 29.20 points to the foal bred by Torsten Petith, who had travelled specially from Bad Homburg in southern Hesse with his foal. “A foal that leaves nothing to be desired. Endowed with a great deal of power and close to perfection,” enthused jury member Toni Hassmann. In second place came a son of the characterful HV-Cassini II, bred by Mattes Jaeger. He scored 28.20 points. Toni Hassmann particularly highlighted his long legs and his power. “Here we have an athlete in the making, just as one would wish for.” Close behind came a colt by Cahil-Casaltino, bred by Manfred von Allwörden. The colt received 27.90 points.
“A strong crop”
A daughter of Raven-Catoo emerged as the dressage-oriented winner at the Herbert-Blöcker-Platz. Malte Kuhnert is the breeder of the foal, which scored a total of 24.85 points. “A filly with a magnificent front end, appropriate gender expression, plenty of natural impulsion and superb mechanics,” said Stephan Haarhoff, highlighting the winner’s positive attributes.
“We were presented with a strong crop today. Many foals impressed with their tremendous athleticism, and amongst the colts we saw several potential candidates for licensing. We can certainly look forward to the 2027 licensing,” concluded Toni Hassmann.
