New arrivals at the stud farm in Elmshorn

Following last weekend’s Holsteiner young stallion licensing, four new additions will be joining the stud’s stock from the coming breeding season onwards. One candidate from the stud’s pre-licensing programme received a positive licensing verdict. Managing Director Sebastian Rohde was also able to secure three further young stallions.

A Clarimo offspring (sire: Connor), which is yet to be named (formerly Clarino, catalogue number 20), was presented by the Holsteiner Verband Stallion Programme and approved at the Fritz-Thiedemann-Halle. Miriam Kühl is the breeder of the grey stallion from line 776. His granddam, Shamrock, is already the dam of Crunch by Clarimo (Rolf-Göran Bengtsson/SWE), and her daughter Graziana produced the now four-year-old association-approved stallion Zuccarello by Zuccero. “The stallion already stood out during the preparatory phase with his careful free jumping and impressed throughout the licensing with very good performances,” says Sebastian Rohde. “I find the pairing of Clarimo with this mare line highly interesting, as the combination with this young stallion’s second dam has already produced several successful examples, such as Crunch and the 1.50-metre show jumper Crunch K.”

A son of Casall out of a Cornet Obolensky dam will also be taking up a stall in Elmshorn: Cascolero competed at the licensing under catalogue number 4 and was bred by Günther Fielmann (Schierensee), line 7126. His third dam produced none other than Bella Donna by Baldini II, who, ridden by Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, finished third in the Aachen Grand Prix, amongst other achievements, and represented Germany at the London Olympics. The granddam of this dark bay stallion, in turn, produced a son at the Holsteiner licensing in February 2023 who was approved for breeding. “Cascolero is a magnificent, well-proportioned athlete with Olympic bloodlines, whose line 7126 has already produced many sporting and breeding stars for the Holsteiner breed,” said Rohde.

Furthermore, a son of Keaton Casall named Kantato (catalogue number 36) will be available to breeders in future. This strikingly marked stallion was bred by Manfred Birchler from Switzerland and represents the successful line 104A. During the licensing, Kantato was awarded the title of ‘Premium Stallion’. His full sister, Nubia BB, was this year’s Holsteiner Reserve Champion Mare and demonstrated her exceptional athleticism with an overall score of 9.1 in the mare performance test. Kantato’s fourth dam is BB Corlandia by Cor de la Bryère, who competed in 1.60-metre show jumping with Willi Melliger (SUI). His third dam, BB Viola by Contendro II, also placed in advanced show jumping with Niklaus Schurtenberger (SUI). Sebastian Rohde on Kantato: “This likeable son of Keaton already made a particularly strong impression during the pre-selection and embodies – backed up several times by the 104A line – proven Holstein success bloodlines.”

Another new addition is United Pleasure by United Way-For Pleasure (Rita Siebke-Baasch, Sarzbüttel), line 2067. This smartly presented grey, catalogue number 44, was a highlight of the premium lot at the licensing in Elmshorn. Cosido by Cosimo (Ellen Kölz/GER), Carosso by Contender (Dirk Ahlmann/GER) and Malva I by Concerto II (Mario Deslauriers/CAN), as well as Cazaro by Chambertin (Carsten-Otto Nagel/GER) and Chaitanya by Cartani (Sienna Charles/GBR) are just a few of his numerous successful relatives in sport. “I know and particularly value this stallion’s family because of their impressive athleticism,” explains Sebastian Rohde. “I am therefore delighted that I was able to acquire this son of United Way together with our long-standing client José Mendonca.”
