On Monday 6 December, from 7 pm, there is a highly interesting event on the Holsteiner calendar: The Holsteiner Verband’s Hengsthaltungs GmbH is hosting an interactive information session on modern reproductive techniques – experts and experienced breeders will be speaking on the topics of embryo transfer (ET), ovum pick-up (OPU) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Several presentations, followed by a panel discussion, will take place both in person in the foyer of the Fritz-Thiedemann-Halle in Elmshorn and via livestream on the website www.holsteiner-verband.de.
Due to the current situation regarding COVID-19 and the resulting limited seating capacity, access to the in-person event is restricted to members of the Holsteiner Verband, subject to prior registration and compliance with the 2G regulations. However, Hengsthaltungs GmbH is making virtual participation possible for anyone interested, as the entire event will be streamed live – and, of course, free of charge – on www.holsteiner-verband.de. Those who have registered on the website in advance will also be able to ask questions about the presentations in a chat room. Speakers include Jannie Spanner from VetEmbryo in Denmark and Michaela Kölling from Vet Art in Dägeling. The pros and cons of both embryo transfer and the OPU and ICSI methods will be discussed by other invited experts, and breeders with experience in applying these methods will also have their say: Those invited to the panel discussion include Neel Schoof (Deputy Breeding Manager of the Trakehner Association), Henrik Klatte (Klatte Stud), Prof. Dr Dr hc mult. Ernst Kalm (former professor and head of the Institute for Animal Breeding at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences in Kiel), Olaf Rörden (Hof am Sylvert), and Dr Christiane Müller (FN Animal Welfare Officer). Norbert Boley, Managing Director of Holsteiner Verband Hengsthaltungs GmbH, is looking forward to the interactive discussion: “We want to provide our breeders with as comprehensive information as possible and allow different viewpoints to be presented, so that they are well-equipped to make their own decisions regarding these reproductive techniques,” he says.
