Cupfer – A son of Casall with great prospects
Tags

He is eight years old and is one of the promising young show jumpers in the stable of world champion and Olympic gold medallist Marcus Ehning. We are talking about Cupfer, a son of Casall Landos, bred by Nybor Pferde GmbH und Co. KG.

Last year, the distinctive chestnut stallion from the Holstein Line 4 won the overall standings of the Fundis Youngster Tour, a series for seven- and eight-year-olds held at international show jumping venues. “Winning such a tour confirms a year of consistent performances,” says breeder and owner Judith Goelkel happily. She chose Casall as the sire at the time because he is the leading stallion in Holstein, where Judith Goelkel’s broodmares are based. “Of course, I always hoped that a better horse would come out of it. And when that hope is confirmed, it’s lovely. I’m very proud of that,” the breeder continued.

For Marcus Ehning, he is the first Casall offspring that he rides himself. “Casall is an amazing horse, but I think the two of them are completely different. Casall was very shy as a young horse; Cupfer would jump through fire if he had to,” says Ehning, describing the character of his rising star. “Above all, he has a big heart and the right attitude for our sport,” Ehning adds.

This year, Marcus Ehning plans to compete with him in show jumping at 1.40- and 1.45-metre levels, as well as on international Youngster Tours. It will be exciting to see how this son of Casall develops further. With Ehning in the saddle, he has a trainer who couldn’t be better.
