At the Holger Hetzel Sport Horse Sales auction, the six-year-old mare Million Dream/Clarima W by Clarimo-Casquetto, bred by Ralf Weihs (line 4847), was sold for the top price. Her new owners were willing to pay 1.8 million euros for her. 

The bay mare was born in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, in the municipality of Sukow. Even before German reunification, Ralf Weihs had ‘always fancied Holsteiners’, as the owner of a boarding and training centre with around 100 horses explains. After the border opened, he set off for Holstein and learnt a great deal about the horses from the ‘Land between the Seas’ from Hans-Joachim Lüer (Niendorf) and Uwe Benzin. “Uwe, in particular, was a walking encyclopaedia, so I became determined to find out everything there was to know about the great stallions such as Corrado, Cassini and Landgraf.” He eventually bought, amongst other things, a Corrado mare, from which he bred the dam of the horse that would later win millions, by mating her with Casquetto. Together with his brother Frank, they decided to have this Casquetto daughter by Clarimo inseminated. It’s a mating the S-level show jumper has never regretted to this day. “I always have five or six mares in breeding, including three half-sisters to Million Dream and Clarima respectively, for whom I’d also like to use Clarimo next year.” The Weihs family had already had success once before with a mating to a breed association stallion: With Chichester by Casall, they produced a former Holsteiner Elite auction horse that competed, amongst other events, at the Pan American Games and World Championships (ridden by Alonso Valdez Prado/PER).
