Stallion Licensing

The decisive selection criterion for stallions is the licensing. Licensing takes place either at the age of two and a half years in hand or from the age of three (licensing in April) under saddle. 

The young stallion licensing is the biggest event in the breeding calendar. In Holstein, this event has been held in the autumn at the Holstenhallen in Neumünster for well over 30 years. Further approval events, to which older stallions are also admitted, take place in January and April in Elmshorn.

During the summer months of June and July, the registration period runs for the pre-selection of young stallions for the licensing event at the end of October in Neumünster. No pre-selection is required for the licensing events in Elmshorn. The assessment of the stallions during the pre-selection and licensing is carried out by at least three members of the licensing committee. To receive a positive licensing verdict, the stallions must demonstrate excellence in conformation, movement and jumping.
